Google Instant was rolled out early this month in a few countries like the U.S. and Canada. Not yet for Singapore. But you can try out Google Instant by going onto the Google.com site rather than the Google.com.sg site.
TechCrunch had an interesting video interview with Marissa Mayer, Google’s VP of Search Products and User Experience. In that interview, Mayer touts Google Instant as a “whole new way to search,”, and she may be right. She also talked about how Google Instant will impact Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Mayer believes there will only be a “small change for the SEO community.”
However, she does expect user search behaviour to change. For example, while typing in a query, before the initial search keywords are completed, the user would have received additional info well, instantly. The user may thus adjust his original search to include the new info. So the end result is not just faster searches, but also more searches.
Now, if Google Instant does change the search behaviour of people, would that really have minimal impact on SEO? Our next article will touch on that.
